Canoe Day Saturday, July 19, 2014
Great group of paddlers again this year with guests joining us from Ottawa, Barrie and Toronto for this year's paddle of the historic La Vase Portages.
Zack Perkin & grandfather Fred Ritter joined us for a fourth year. Zack can almost guide the group through on his own now.
Erhard Kraus returns to La Vase Portagse after almost twenty years.
Was a pleasure to meet and speak with Erhard Kraus and paddling partner Cheryl. Erhard had first paddled La Vase Portages in 1995 with local canoeing enthusiast Paul Chivers and Erhard was pleased to see the route has been kept up and its use has been growing.
Coopers Lake Beaver Dam Continues to Breach
Heavy rains this Spring have breached three of the major beaver dams in the area of Coopers Lake & Dreany Creek. Water levels have dropped over two feet and are likely to continue dropping until beaver activity picks up in the area.
Munch Box Strategically Located on Historic Portage
Nicole and staff of the Much Box hosted with a great shore lunch of fish and chips for the group. By coincidence the road side lunch stop is actually on the historic lower portage route. Thansk to the Much Boc for a great lunch!
