Daniel Beauchamp's spiritual journey.

High wind and waves got the better of Dan Beauchamp on May 28, 2008,  as he neared North Bay on his crossing of Lake Nipissing.  Swamping not far from the Government dock he was able to get to shore and recollect his gear from the ice cold water.

Special thanks to Andy Lorimer and Art Galipeau for helping Dan to get his canoe and gear out of the water and for helping him to get to Champlain Park to continue his trip.

Giving thanks for reaching shore safely

Traditional offerings of tobacco and sweet grass were burned in thanks for making shore safely on a rough crossing of Lake Nipissing enroute to the mouth of La Vase portages. Dan is continuing his spiritual journey and plans to meet up with other paddlers at Victoria Island on the Ottawa River on June 21.

" He calls this trip UNITED, and he undertakes it as a part of his walk on the red path. He holds in his heart a prayer for Creator, the sun, Father sky, Mother earth wind, fire and water and people, love and peace.

The circle of all nations, elders, pipe carriers, fire keepers and friends join him in spirit as he retraces the canoe routes of the aboriginal peoples of the Ottawa river valley."

Something old, something new

Revered offerings of sweet grass, beaver fur, buffalo fur and cedar tips are an important part of Dan's journey. They are kept in the pack with a cellphone which Dan uses to keep in touch with friends and family.

Crossing the marshes.

Strong breezes and cool temperatures at least help to keep the bugs away while paddling Summer's Pond.

Last rays of sun for the day.

Recovering from a dunking in Lake  Nipissing made for a long days canoeing and Dan was not able to make his planned camp site until late evening.
