La Vase Portages

Paddle Across Canada Tour group crosses La Vase Portages
01 September, 2013

Picture
The Paddle Across Canada Tour group crossed La Vase Portages on Sept. 1st, day 109 of their 120 day canoe trip across Canada.

Columbia House B.C. to Lachine, Quebec    4 months across Canada

Picture
A great group who set out from Columbia House May 14 on the B.C. Alberta border and have been paddling across Canada for almost four months.

Paddling Dreany Creek

Picture
After the last few weeks on Lake Superior, Georgian Bay and a day crossing Lake Nipissing the narrow passageways and marshes along La Vase Portages mark a real change in geography.

Portaging a 270 Pound Canoe

Picture
Raising a 270 pound canoe onto your shoulders, even between 6 people is not an easy task. The "Canoe de Maitre" favoured by the Voyageurs weighed about 600 pounds without trade goods.

The Five Hour Crossing Was a Piece of Cake.

Picture
The numerous beaver dam lift overs and several portages of about 400 metres along La Vase Portages were a straight forward carry compared the the twenty kilometer Grande Portage the group completed to reach Lake Superior.

Great Group of Paddlers. Adventure of a Lifetime.
