WCA drops by for a visit

Picture
Ray, Bob, Karen, Karen, Anne, Derek & Gillian - all members of the Toronto Wilderness Canoeing Association dropped in at La Vase Portages June 14 for a days paddle.  Combined with a day trip on the Mattawa and an overnight in Champlain Park made for a great Voyageur weekend.

Sucking Swamp

Picture
With almost 18 inches of water above normal levels on the swamp it hid a few more deep spots than usual. Gillian managed to find one of the deeper mud holes, even the log bridge was floating in the swamp that weekend.

Paddling Cooper's Lake.

Ray and Anne enjoy a leisurely paddle down Copper's Lake after slugging it out through the swamp and upper portages.

Another dam liftover

Picture
The beaver dam at the south end of Cooper's Lake is recorded on the Logan map of 1845 and still adds about five feet of depth to the entire lake channel which was paddled by the Voyageurs.
